So let’s cut the chase, the Audi RS3 is the quicker car here. The AWD paired with a dual-clutch transmission, and the lighter curb weight, blasts the RS3 from 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds, and it finishes the 1/4 mile over half a second quicker than the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.
The Audi RS3 does have one major drawback, as does many other luxury car brands (Mercedes, Lexus etc.). They do not offer a manual transmission. To some, this may not be an issue. Although to many, like myself, a manual transmission is a must. There is an engagement factor, a sense of connection to the vehicle, that can only be had with a manual transmission. Of course if we take that out of the equation, then the AWD and quicker speed might tip the RS3 in most peoples favor.
Then we have design. Personally I like the rear of the new RS3, but I’m not too fond of the front end. The CT4-V Blackwing on the other hand I think has one of the best front ends in the market. In the end, it’s all personal preference.
Both of these offer amazing performance in a smaller sedan size. With the Audi RS3 being almost 10” shorter, yet it is a bit wider. Cadillac and Audi both offer a variety of luxury options, so although their starting MSRP are similar, they can easily jump up pretty fast depending on how you option them.
I say test drive them both. If you’re looking for a manual, then the answer is clear. But if you’re fine with an automatic, then I really think a back-to-back test drive will be your best bet. In the end it’s not all about speed…it’s about the connection you have to the vehicle, the character, the emotion; which can only be felt when driving the car.
